confronting the feelings of being alive.
influenced by a late 90s birth, an early 2000s childhood that was defined by a 2010s internet aesthetic, and left to grasp with the world post 2020.
nostalgic visuals combined with abstract understandings of emotions turned tangible in hopes to live with ones’ self.
the artist is searching for the beauty that remains with a determination of justice.

about
who? what? a bio?
Tri is a contemporary sculptor who fuses lights with hearts to bring forth conceptualized feelings to the physical world in hopes to create a healthier relationship with ones emotions. Their current works blend the worlds of neon with mixed materials that reflect their stylized aesthetic inspired by media from their childhood and the internet aesthetics of their youth. Tri brings forth a level of fabricated nostalgia that captures an inter-generational audience.
Growing up in Columbus, Ohio, they went on to receive their BFA from the Columbus College of Art in Design before making the move to Chicago, Illinois, where they received their MFA in Art and Technology studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. They currently are pursuing work in curation at Lightwriters Neon as their Gallery Manager.
why an artist statement?
Growing up fascinated by transformative light in 90s anime sparked my interest in self-evolution and universal empathy, leading me to explore emotions through sculptural hearts. I utilize cartoon-styled hearts as they connect to how we describe emotional experiences as "matters of the heart". From works referencing "with a heavy heart" made of concrete to validation explored through mirrors.
I approach each emotion as a distinct entity, giving it physical form to reflect the toll the metaphysical has on our bodies. I often use neon and light sources because, like emotions, light emanates from within but extends outward, affecting everything around it.
